🛡️ Grammar: The Passive Voice
1ère Bac Sciences et Technologies Elécriques STE
📌 Introduction
We use the passive voice when the focus is on the action, not the person who did it. It’s common in science reports and formal writing.
📚 Structure
Present Simple: The experiment is done every week.
Past Simple: The results were published yesterday.
Future: The project will be presented tomorrow.
With “by”: The theory was discovered by Einstein.
🔬 Science Use
In science, we often use passive voice to focus on results, not people:
Instead of: “We discovered the bacteria.” → Passive: “The bacteria were discovered in 2020.”
Instead of: “Scientists measured the temperature.” → Passive: “The temperature was measured every hour.”
